Goodbye Windows XP

Goodbye Windows XPIt’s nearly time to say goodbye Windows XP. This past April marked the one year count-down to the eventual discontinuation of support for the venerable operating system (technically on April 8, 2014). What does this mean to you? In short, it’s high time you moved on and adopted Windows 7 or Windows 8.

Windows XP still accounted for over 40% of active Windows computer systems at the end of 2012. This is significant when you consider that Windows 7 is roughly three years old. Worse yet, Windows XP systems account for over 70% of malware infections. This problem will only worsen next April when the automatic Windows Updates stop arriving. You might recall a significant update to Internet Explorer 8 earlier this year. Being the most current version of Internet Explorer on Windows XP (IE9 and IE10 are not available), the risks will only continue to grow.

Some speculate that Microsoft will continue to make security updates available but this cannot be assumed. Thom Infotech is currently informing our clients that we will no longer support computers running Windows XP after April of 2014. It’s time to make the move to the newer operating systems.

Thom Infotech highly recommends Windows 7 and Windows 8. We’re using (and selling) both and they have proven to be very reliable and secure. Windows 8 on a touch-enabled device is easy to use once you get a bit of experience. Call 630-937-1500 or contact us today to discuss your options.
